New casino, same poker

Went to the Sands for the first time. I liked the location of the poker room (right in the middle of everything) but probably won't be heading back any time soon. Between a min of $15 for BJ (there goes friends being able to play for an extended period of time), terrible comps (I think I played 5 hours and got $2 in comp), expensive food ($8 for a cheese steak, ok. $5 to make it a combo? Give me a break.) and nothing else going on in the area, there just isn't enough selling points.

Bought in for $200 (and 2 extra $100 chips pocketed) and sat down at $3/6 limit while I was waiting for a NL table to open up. Dropped $20-25 there when my 2 pair lost to a set. On to $1/2.

Picked up pocket 8s in the BB. Button raises to $22 when only one person called before him. Felt like a raise that didn't want a caller. I called, everybody else folded. Flop came K high. I decided to shove repping the AK hoping he had tens or jacks. He had kings and flopped top set. Oops. Guess I'll be reloading quicker than I expected.

Picked up pocket 8s in late position again and got 3 of callers. Flop came K high again, this time with 2 hearts. Checked to me, I bet $40. 2 callers. River Ah. Checks around, I check. River comes a blank. Checks around. I bet $70 and get called down by K6. Guess I won't be bluffing from here on in. Reload for another $200.

A round or so later, the button raises to $15. I see AdKh in the small blind. I call and there were 3 other callers. Flop comes ace high, all hearts. I bet $50, folds around to button who jams for another hundred or so. I call, he had 4h6h. Turn K, river Qh. Nice. A bit later I'm in mid position and he raises to $15 as the first one to act. I see AA. Smooth call and 2 other callers. Crap. Flop comes 58T. He bets $35, I call, other guys fold. Turn 7. Same bet, I go all in for $80 or so more, he calls and he has KK. River is no help and I'm now back to $550 or so. Yep, back to close to even due to 2 coolers, poker is a skill game.

Now that I had a stack, I finally was able to start making some moves. Don't remember any specific hands but I did end the day with $695.

Session: +$95
Net: -$905
